Trustees’ annual report (TAR) template

How to use this: complete each section with your own information, scaling the detail to your income and accounts type. Report challenges as well as achievements — a balanced report builds credibility. Verify every figure against your accounts.

The Charities SORP sets the content for accruals-accounts charities, and SORP 2026 applies to accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2026 (Source: charitysorp.org / gov.uk, accessed 10 July 2026).

1. Reference and administrative details
   Charity name, number(s), registered address, trustees, key staff, advisers.

2. Objectives and activities
   Our charitable purposes (objects) and what we do to further them.
   How our activities deliver public benefit (have regard to Commission guidance).

3. Achievements and performance
   What we set out to do, what we delivered, and the difference it made — with
   real figures. Honest note on challenges and what we would change.

4. Financial review
   Summary of the year's finances; reserves position against our reserves policy;
   principal risks (risk statement, for accruals accounts).

5. Structure, governance and management
   How the charity is constituted and governed; how trustees are appointed.

6. Declarations and approval
   Approved by the trustees and signed on their behalf: [name], [date].
