Grant readiness checker
This checker walks you through what most funders expect to see before they will fund you — governance, accounts, policies, a bank account and a clear project — and shows where your charity is ready and where there are gaps to close before you apply. It is a preparation tool, not a guarantee of funding.
How to use it

The method and what it checks
The checker reflects what UK funders commonly require. There are no statutory thresholds here, but the registration point is a legal one:
- Constitution and status: a governing document; registration with the Charity Commission if income is £5,000 or more (or any income for a CIO).
- Finances: recent accounts, a budget, and your own charity bank account.
- Policies: the policies relevant to your work — safeguarding where you work with children or adults at risk, plus data protection and others.
- The project: a clear need, planned outcomes, and a realistic budget including a fair share of core costs.

How to read your result
This is guidance, not advice. A “ready” result means you have removed the common avoidable barriers, not that funding is assured. Always read each funder’s own eligibility and exclusions, which vary. Use the gaps list as a to-do before you spend time on applications.
