Lead trustee for safeguarding

Two roles are routinely confused, and they sit at different levels with different bases.

The lead trustee is a governance role and a regulator expectation. The operational designated safeguarding lead is an executive role which in some sectors is a statutory requirement. They are usually different people.

Appointing a lead trustee does not transfer responsibility: safeguarding remains the duty of every trustee. See appointing a safeguarding lead.
