Independent examiner

An examiner is not an auditor and does not do an audit. What they do is prescribed by the regulator.

The examiner must be independent of the charity’s management and must follow the Independent Examiner’s Directions. Above the qualification threshold they must belong to a listed professional body.

Independence means not a trustee, not an employee, and not a close connection. Agree an engagement letter before work starts.
