Regulated alteration

Charities can make many changes to their governing documents themselves. A defined set cannot be made without prior consent, and making one without it is ineffective.

Regulated alterations broadly cover: changing the charitable purposes, altering provisions authorising benefits to trustees or connected persons, and changing what happens to property on dissolution. The precise list and the consent route differ by structure and by jurisdiction.
