Scottish Charity Register

Registration in Scotland does more than record a charity: under Scottish law, registration is what makes a body a charity.

From 9 March 2026 the register publishes trustees’ first and last names, and charities’ accounts are published unredacted. An individual trustee may apply for exclusion of their details on evidenced safety or security grounds.

Tell prospective trustees before they agree to serve. The 2025 accounts regulations also added a route to omit sensitive details from the accounts themselves: see the Scottish trustee register.
